The CEO of the Corporate Solutions Group of Jones LaSalle is executing an organizational redesign to make the company more solutions-centric. Peter Barge has recently been appointed the CEO of the newly created Corporate Solutions Group of Jones Lang LaSalle Americas which will, for the first time, place the three business units that serve the company's corporate clients (i.e. those clients for whom real estate is not the core business) under a single structure. Barge's role will be to achieve tighter coordination among their diverse activities in order to achieve the company's broader goal of "customer excellence." In order to achieve better integration among the units, one of Barge's first actions will be to augment the role of the managers, who are able to offer a single point of contact for the clients across the full range of JLL's offerings, Barge hopes to improve customer satisfaction and grow the business from the company's large multinational accounts. This strategy requires a major organizational restructuring that will change the real estate services firm from an autonomous, business-unit centered model to an account-centered matrix structure. While the company's original structure was appropriate in the past, industry trends and increased competition have forced real estate service providers to offer their customers a broader array of products and services across multiple geographies. The old structure is no longer effective as it impedes the firm's ability to provide a coordinated, integrated service to its accounts. however, the reorganization requires fundamental changes in accountability, revenue and cost allocation, compensation systems, sales and marketing, and general corporate culture.
