Is there is a price for human life? While a great number of people would agree that human life has no monetary value, a critical examination of the models adopted by policy makers and professionals in engineering, particularly in some areas of the civil engineering sector, shows that decision makers are sometimes forced to put a price human on life during important decision-making processes.Several decades ago, the use of utilitarian approaches, where the value of life is priced as part of a multivariable function, opened up a never-ending discussion among professionals, policy makers and researchers in the field of engineering that has resulted in a very extensive body of professional and academic literature.
